Doogan Reaches 1,000-Point Milestone in Tough Loss to No. 18 Tennessee

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team dropped a tough battle to No. 18 Tennessee Friday afternoon in the West Palm Beach Classic opener, 92-67. With the setback, the Spiders fell to 9-3 on the season, while the Lady Vols remain perfect at 10-0. In the game, Maggie Doogan reached the 1,000 career-point milestone on a free throw attempt in the fourth quarter, becoming the 29th Spider to surpass 1,000 career points.

The Lady Vols got on the board first with a jumper 28 seconds into the contest and followed it with a triple to jump out to an early five-point lead. Ally Sweeney got the Spiders on the board with a triple before Addie Budnik tied the game at five with a pair of free throws. Tennessee recorded three quick points, while Budnik posted another layup to bring the game within one at 8-7. After a layup from Tennessee, Budnik responded with a triple to tie the game again at 10. After exchanging points, Doogan and Ullstrom gave the Spiders the lead with a triple and a layup, 17-14, but the Lady Vols scratched back to end the first quarter with a two-point lead, 23-21.
Budnik opened the second quarter with a layup to tie the game at 23, but Tennessee sparked a 7-0 run to build a 30-23 lead. Ullstrom ended the scoring drought with a layup to cut the deficit to five, but Tennessee continued to score with two made free throws and a jumper for a nine-point advantage at 34-25. After exchanging more points, the Lady Vols built a 13-point lead, 43-30. Ullstrom managed to post seven points to end the quarter, cutting into Tennessee's lead at 47-39.
Doogan cut the deficit to six to open the third quarter with two free throws, making it 47-41. The Lady Vols quickly pushed the lead back to 10 with a layup, but Hill responded on the other end of the court with a layup to make it 51-43. Tennessee then went on a 9-0 run to build a 60-43 lead before Sweeney ended the drought with a layup, bringing it to 60-45. After Ullstrom added a layup, Tennessee went on another 7-0 run for a 70-47 advantage. Doogan recorded a free throw and a jumper to close the quarter, but the Spiders entered the final 10 minutes trailing 73-50.
