Spiders Extend Early Season Win Streak with 17-7 Victory over William & Mary

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team extended its early season win streak with a 17-7 victory over William & Mary Wednesday evening.
Up just one goal, 3-2, at the 12:16 mark of the second quarter, the 3-0 Spiders poured on five unanswered to make it a 8-2 game by the final minutes of the first half. William & Mary (1-2) brought the game within four to make it a 9-5 contest by the 7:51 mark of the third before Richmond pulled away and closed out the quarter with four unanswered goals to go up 13-5. Richmond held a 4-2 goal advantage over the final frame, going up by 10 and starting a running clock with the game at 16-6 and finally 17-7 to close out the final 18 seconds.
Richmond was lead offensively by Ali Susskind with a career high five goals, while Colleen Quinn (3 assists), Marymargaret Quinn (1 assist), Julianna Stanley, Sarah Roycroft and Charlotte Edwards added two each. Alexis Morton (3 assists) and Maggie Jordan each chipped in one as well. Leah Kenny added an assist.
Morton's three assists tie a career and season high set in the season opener at Campbell, while Quinn also tied a season high with three helpers.
Richmond won 15 draws to William & Mary's 13 and helped maintain possession throughout the game with 19 ground balls to the Tribe's 11. The Spiders went 19-for-22 on clears and turned the ball over 19 times while W&M went 18-for-24 with 21 turnovers including six in the second quarter.
Defensively, the Spiders recorded four caused turnovers led by Caroline Stevens with two and the Richmond goalies split time in net, with Nicole Burney and Abby Francioli each recording eight saves.
Up next, Richmond heads on the road to face Liberty at 1:00 Saturday in Lynchburg.
