Carson Claims Bronze Medal in 200 Freestyle on Day Three of Swim & Dive Championships

Hampton, Va. – Megan Carson represented Richmond in the 200 free on Friday, claiming the third place finish and bronze medal. Other strong performances came from day three of the Atlantic 10 conference championships as Richmond stands in second place entering the final day of competition on Saturday.
Friday morning action began with 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back preliminaries. Eleven Spiders found success through the early hours, moving onto the finals in their respective events:
Katie Chignell and Natalie Stuart represented Richmond in the 400 IM A-Finals as Laura Davis and Emma Martin competed in the B-Finals. Chignell took the 5th place finish at 4:23.05 as Stuart followed soon behind in 8th place with a personal best of 4:26.78. Davis finished 3rd in the B-Finals with a time of 4:24.54, ending in 11th place overall. Martin took the 13th place conference finish with a mark of 4:25.62.
Caitlyn Hughes, Carstyn Klosterman and Petra Mijic swam in the 200 free B-Finals. Hughes finished in 10thplace overall at 1:50.32. Klosterman took the 13th place conference finish with a time of 1:51.62. Mijic rounded out the event in 16th place at 1:51.89.
Freshman Presley Baber was a bright spot for Richmond in the 100 breast B-Finals, taking the 1st place finish in the heat with a personal best of 1:02.50. Baber now holds the No. 6 mark in program history with her 9thplace conference finish.
Katelyn Pennell and Caroline Weldon claimed 6th and 8th place in the 100 back. Pennell finished at 54.32 as Weldon followed at 54.46. Pennell's mark is No. 7 in program history and Weldon's is No. 8. Carstyn Klosterman swam in the B-Finals of the event, finishing in 15th place with a personal best of 55.71.
The Spiders wrapped up their third day of competition with the 400 medley relay. Caroline Weldon, Presley Baber, Katelyn Pennell and Lucy Yeomans grouped together, taking the 5th place finish at 3:41.84.
