Spiders Post Revenge win over Duquesne, Finish Regular Season Home Slate at 14-0

RICHMOND, Va. – In the second-straight game with five players scoring in double digits, the University of Richmond women's basketball team avenged a loss earlier in the season at Duquesne and toppled the Dukes inside the Robins Center Wednesday evening, 90-74, to finish the regular season home slate undefeated at 14-0. With the win, the Spiders posted the program's first undefeated regular season home season in the NCAA era (joined 1983-84) and moved to 25-5 on the year and 15-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play while the Dukes fell to 18-10 overall and 13-4 in conference action. In addition, the team pushed its overall home winning streak to 21-straight games, dating back to the 2022-23 season, the sixth-longest home win-streak of NCAA D-I teams.

How it Happened
Maggie Doogan set the precedent, with a wide-open triple to start the game, 24 seconds into the contest. Duquesne would respond with a triple on the other coast to tie the game at three. After exchanging another pair of three pointers, the Dukes were able to build a small lead, 9-6, but Richmond would respond with efforts from Laren VanArsdale and Addie Budnik to put UR back in the lead, 11-9. Duquesne would then go ahead 13-11, before a jumper from Grace Townsend sparked a 6-0 run for the Spiders. DUQ scratched back to come within one, 17-16, but two back-to-back jumpers from Townsend would end the first quarter with Richmond ahead 21-17.
Budnik sparked an 8-0 run to open the second quarter as the Spiders built their lead to double digits, 29-17. Rachel Ullstrom then responded to a Duquesne jumper with a triple to push the lead to 13, 32-19. After exchanging a few points, back-to-back jumpers from Ullstrom and VanArsdale brought the lead back to 13, 42-29. The Dukes slowly chipped away at the Richmond lead as a final three pointer from the opposition would send UR into the locker room ahead 46-38.
Out of the break, Ryan sparked a 5-0 run for Richmond while a triple from Townsend following a three pointer from DUQ sparked a 7-0 run to give Richmond a 58-41 lead. The Dukes cut the deficit to 60-46, but couldn't withstand the offensive power from the home team, as VanArsdale posted six points under a minute and Townsend netted two free throws, sending UR into the final 10 minutes ahead 76-54.
Duquesne was able to cut the lead back under 20, 77-62, after an 8-1 run to open the final frame. Doogan posted back-to-back layups to put UR back ahead by 21, 84-63. After both teams put points up on both coasts throughout the quarter, four free throws from Torin Rogers and Ally Sweeney would give Richmond the victory, 90-74.
