HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Spiders sophomore Hannah Lydic carded a 1-over 73 Sunday to win the Low Country Intercollegiate with a 54-hole total of 5-over par (221) at Moss Creek Golf Club. Lydic's performance led the Spiders to a team runner-up finish in the 16-team event, with a combined score of 43-over par (907), five strokes behind champion East Tennessee State.
The win is the second of Lydic's career along with the 2023 William & Mary Fall Invitational. She becomes the third Spider ever to win multiple full-field events, joining Sophie DiPetrillo and Caroline Lovette.
"It feels great to get a win today," said Lydic. "This course is extremely tough and ate me alive last year. My goal coming into the event was not to let this course get to me. It was a grind but I put a lot of work into preparing game and my mind for the event. Winning today with the love and support from my teammates means the world to me!"
Lydic made a pair a double bogey, a bogey, and two birdies Sunday, adding to her field-high nine birdies over the course of the event. This is her third top-two finish this year along with her runner-up results at September's Nittany Lion Invitational and October's Mercer Invitational.
Senior Rory Weinfurther tied for fourth place at 8-over par (224) after shooting 3-over (75) Sunday. It was Weinfurther's second straight top-five finish along with last month's fourth-place finish at the RiverTowne Invitational.
Sophomore Olivia Wilkie tied for 21st at 16-over par (232), two shots in front of junior Lauren Jones, who tied for 29th at 18-over par (234). Freshman Maya Beasley tied for 59th at 29-over par (245).
Junior Christine Mandile led three Spiders who competed as individuals, shooting 26-over par (242) to tie for 52nd. Freshman Heather Appleson shot 28-over par (244) and tied for 54th. Senior Claire Yioulos tied for 64th at 31-over par (247), moving 17 spots up the leaderboard with a 3-over 75 Sunday.
This is Richmond's second straight top-two team finish after the Spiders won last month's RiverTowne Invitational.
"The course was tough this week," said coach Calle Barlow. "I really love seeing us putting ourselves in this position to win again. We're ready to get back to school and get back to work to get ready for ECU and conference," added Barlow, referring to next month's Ironwood Invitational hosted by ECU and the 2024 Patriot League Championship, which will be hosted by Bucknell on April 19-21.
