Richmond, Va. – Through lockdown defense in the 15-7 win over Davidson on Saturday, Maggie Jordan and Abby Francioli have been named this week's Atlantic 10 Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week.
Jordan, the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, stood out as the strong leader for Richmond defense in the win over the Wildcats. Jordan posted 3 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers and 5 draw controls on the day. She led her group to success, holding the Davidson offense to only 22 shots. Playing unselfishly, Jordan found success on the offensive side of the ball as well, scoring 1 goal with a 100% shooting percentage.
Francioli, the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, paced the Richmond defensive unit with 17 saves, while only allowing 7 Davidson goals to slip through. Her save percentage on the day stands as .708. These numbers are believed to be the highest in program history for a freshman goalkeeper in their first career start as a Spider. Francioli impressed many at Robins Stadium. She looks to carry this momentum through the rest of the season and grow stronger as a leader for this Richmond defensive squad. You can find Francioli's postgame interview here.
Up next, Jordan, Francioli and the rest of the Spiders hit the road once again to take on the conference rivals of George Mason in Fairfax, Va. on Wednesday, March 20 at 5:00 p.m.
