Susskind Leads Richmond to Victory in Thrilling Overtime Matchup Against George Mason

Fairfax, Va. – Ali Susskind, the senior from Bay Shore, N.Y. took control of the Richmond offense on Wednesday against George Mason as she scored six of the Spiders fifteen goals. The matchup between the Atlantic 10 opponents stretched into a single period of overtime as Susskind scored the winning goal with nine seconds left in the extra three minutes. After a back-and-forth fight, Richmond ended the game with the 15-14 win.
First quarter action balanced between the programs as Richmond held the 4-3 lead heading into the second. Quarter two remained gritty between the Spiders and the Patriots, going 7-6 in Richmond's favor and putting the score at 11-9 entering the break. Quarter three was dominated by the Patriots coming out of halftime as they outscored the Spiders 3-0, giving George Mason the 12-11 edge as the final quarter approached. Richmond came back strong in the fourth quarter outscoring George Mason 3-2. Ali Susskind scored the game tying goal with twenty-six seconds remaining in the quarter, pushing the game into overtime. The overtime period for both teams stretched on with neither squad finding the back of the net within the first two minutes and fifty-one seconds. With fourty-eight seconds left in overtime, Caroline Murphy scooped up a ground ball on the defensive end of the field, cleared the lines, and put the game into the hands of the offense. Ali Susskind worked her magic once again, finding a creative shot for the game winning score with nine seconds remaining. With this ecstatic win, the Spiders extend their overall record to 7-2 and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0.
