Francioli Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Once Again

Richmond, Va. – Abby Francioli the freshman goalie reigning from Baltimore, MD. has picked up her second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors of the 2024 season, announced by the conference Tuesday.
On the fifth week of competition Francioli took her first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors as she led the Spiders to victory against the conference foes of Davidson in her first career start. She paced the Richmond defensive unit with 17 saves, while only allowing 7 Davidson goals to slip through. Her save percentage on the day stands as .708. These numbers are believed to be the highest in program history for a freshman goalkeeper in their first career start as a Spider. Francioli impressed many at Robins Stadium.
This week, Francioli had another strong performance between the pipes against St. Bonaventure in the 17-9 at Robins Stadium. The freshman pulled in 13 saves, scooped 2 ground balls and only allowed 5 goals through for a .722 save percentage in three quarters of play. Francioli saw action through periods 1-3 for 45 total minutes before being relieved in the fourth quarter.
Francioli has now played in all eleven games for Richmond, starting in four. With a 4-0 record in goal, she has tallied 69 saves with an overall save percentage of .486. Francioli looks to continue her young success for the Spiders as they begin to approach the tail end of their regular season schedule.
Up next, Francioli and her Spiders set to host the No. 11/12 Dukes of James Madison on Wednesday, April 3 at Robins Stadium with an opening draw time of 4:00 p.m..
