Spiders Claim Top Finishes in Split Weekend at Virginia Challenge and CNU Captains Classic

Charlottesville, Va. & Newport News, Va. – The University of Richmond track & field program had many successful finishes this weekend as the team split into separate groups, competing at the Virginia Challenge hosted by UVA and the CNU Captains Classic hosted by Christopher Newport.

Virginia Challenge

Virginia Beringer represented Richmond in the 400m at the Virginia Challenge, running with determination as she took the 6^th place finish with a personal best of 55.13. Beringer beat out 44 other competitors through the event pool. Elke Van der Westhuizen finished soon behind in 11^th place with a season best bark of 55.46.

Elizabeth Stockman competed in the 3K steeplechase for only the second time in her career. She finished in 7^th place with a personal best of 10:28.67.

Caroline Donohoe found success in the 800m, taking the 10^th place finish at 2:08.00.

CNU Captains Classic

Richmond completely dominated the 800m event at the CNU Captains Classic, sweeping the top five finishes in a competition pool of 24 runners. Allison Colflesh crossed the finish line first with a personal best of 2:15.66. Emily Rzucidlo finished in 2^nd place soon after at 2:16.69, a personal best. Aylin Bruce came in 3^rd with the personal best mark of 2:17.52. Morgan Elliott was the next Spider to finish, claiming 4^th place with with a personal best of 2:17.84. Isabel Blaylock capped off the event for Richmond in 5^th place at 2:18.10.

The 5K was another strong event for Richmond. Phoebe Rubio claimed the 1^st place finish with a mark of 18:36.34. Mollie Fenn was the next Spider to finish in the event, taking 3^rd place at 19:33.93. Ashley Minns followed right behind Fenn as she ended the event in 4^th place with a mark of 19:38.12.

Joshua Gray stood out for the Spides in the 800m, finishing in 7^th place in a competition pool of 30. Gray crossed the finish line at 1:58.76.

Jacob Ellis found success in the 1500m as he finished at 4:15.14 for 7^th place.

Up next, the Spiders cap off their regular season with a trip to Philadelphia, Pa. for the historic Penn Relays. Competition will span from April 25-27.
