MARICOPA, Ariz. — For the second straight day, Drew Carlin carded a 3-under 69 to lead the Spiders at the National Golf Invitational at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Carlin, who is playing in the final event of his sophomore season, has now equaled the lowest round of his collegiate career in consecutive rounds. He'll enter Sunday's final round at 6-under par (138), tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard.
As a team, the Spiders are third in the 10-team field at 13-under par (563) through 36 holes. Richmond trails TCU (-20) and Washington State (-19). The Spiders have played the par 5s at Southern Dunes in a tournament-best 28-under par, enough to offset UR's combined 14-over on the par 3s, last in the field.
All five Spiders are in the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. Behind Carlin are Patrick Isztwan and Quin Polin at 3-under par (141), tied for 13th in the field. Isztwan has made 12 birdies through the first two rounds, tied for second most in the field.
Cole Ekert is tied for 20th at 1-under par (143) after making 25 pars in his first two rounds, second most of any golfer. Jack LaPiana is tied for 25th at 1-over par (145).
Richmond will be paired with TCU and Washington State for Sunday's final round, which will start at 7:45 AM MT.
