RICHMOND, Va. – Head Coach Aaron Roussell and the University of Richmond women's basketball team announced on Friday the addition of FGCU transfer Alyssa Jimenez to the Spider roster ahead of the 2024-25 season.
"We are thrilled to have Alyssa join our program for the upcoming season," Roussell said. "This finalizes our roster for 2024-25, and we were able to complete it with a player that fits our style of play perfectly in so many ways. Alyssa is a complete player who knocks down shots very efficiently and is a high-level defender. She has a proven basketball IQ and unselfishness that will mesh well with her new teammates."
Jimenez, a 6-0 guard, spent the 2023-24 season at FGCU, where the Eagles clinched a 2024 ASUN Tournament Championship title enroute to an appearance in the 2024 NCAA D-I Women's Basketball Championship, narrowly falling to No. 5 Oklahoma in the opening round, 73-70. Prior to her season with the Eagles, Jimenez spent four seasons at Nevada, starting in 94 of 97 games for the Wolf Pack. As a freshman, she played in all 31 games, starting 30 of them. She averaged 24.8 minutes per game, chipping in 3.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per contest. Notably, she led the team with 40 steals and added 55 assists. In her sophomore and junior seasons, she picked up Mountain West All-Defensive Team and All-Mountain West Honorable Mention accolades, respectively. In 2022-23, she also became the first Nevada player to record at least six double-doubles since 2018-19.
The Thornton, Co. native also had had an impressive high school career at Horizon High School, where she played in over 100 games and recorded more than 1,200 points. She averaged 11.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, and was instrumental in leading her team to back-to-back conference championships. She earned numerous accolades, including two second-team all-conference honors, a first-team all-conference selection in 2018, and an all-state honorable mention the same year.
"Last year's success gave this team a hunger that is at an all-time high," Roussell said on preparing for the 2024-25 season. "I am so eager to get on the court with them and begin the quest to bring this university and its fans another championship."
Jimenez, along with Stephanie Ouderkirk, Sam Dewey and Faith Alston round out the 2024 transfer class, and will join incoming freshmen Annika Manthy, Alicia Newell and Peyton Richard as the newest faces to the Spider roster.
