Larripa Scores Four Goals in Spider Hockey Dominant Victory over William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – University of Richmond sophomore Clara Larripa tallied a career-high four goals in the fourth quarter Sunday to collect the Spider Field Hockey program first victory of the season and under the guidance of head coach Martu Loncarica, 7-1 win over William & Mary at Busch Field.
Richmond (1-1) returns to Crenshaw Field to host App State Friday, Sept. 6, at 5 p.m. and Temple, Sunday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN-plus and will have an international streaming option.
The Spiders came out fast against the Tribe, earning two quick corners to open the game. UR fired offed eight shots in the period and finished with four total corners.
William & Mary got on the board first in the 17th minute of action. After that, it was all Richmond.
Sophomore Valen Luna Paratore collected her first collegiate goal in the 22nd minute, cleaning up a scramble in front of the Tribe goalkeeper to tie the game.
In the 25th minute, Avery Russell scored off a baseline pass from Clara Larripa to give Richmond the lead. Charly Faherty tallied the Spiders third goal of the quarter in the 26th minute, slipping behind the Tribe defense and pushed the ball in from between her legs.
Richmond held the upper hand in shots 14-5 and corners 7-3 in the first half. The squads battled for possession in the third quarter, as both took three shots with one on frame.
Larripa got hot in the last 10 minutes of action. Jess McMeeking connected a pass from the midfield as she entered the circle, and she ripped a one-timer from the top in the 53rd minute. Just a minute later, Larripa tipped in a passed from Grace Wiggins that zipped past the Tribe defense for her second goal.
In the 55th minute, Larripa tipped in a pass from Wiggins to convert the Spiders 12th penalty corner of the game. With two-and-a-half minutes left in the game, Larripa received the insert from McMeeking on the circle to score on a one-timer.
The Spiders last beat the Tribe, 3-1, in Williamsburg in 2022. This is also the most goals UR has scored against an opponent since topping Saint Louis, 9-0, in the spring 2021 COVID-19 season.
