Spider Field Hockey Scores Twice Late to Defeat App State

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team battled back Friday evening after an early goal to defeat App State, 2-1, at Crenshaw Field.
Richmond, now 2-1 on the season, hosts Temple on Sunday at Crenshaw Field for an 11 a.m. match up on ESPN+.
The Mountaineers (2-1) took the lead in the 6th minute of action on a scrum in front of the goal as the squads battled to maintain possession in the attacking thirds.
App State held a halftime advantage in shots, 12-2, and corners, 4-0, over Richmond. Kristen Rake made five saves in the first half.
The Spiders picked up the offensive intensity in the second half, including earning two penalty corners in the third quarter. In the 43rd minute, the UR pentalty corner unit kept composure on a broken play, quickly getting the ball back to Clara Larripa in the circle. Larripa sent in a hard pass towards the goal that Madelyn Curtis was able to tip in from behind the goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-all.
With two minutes left in the contest, Jess McMeeking pushed the ball from midfield to the attacking third, finding Valen Luna Paratore for her second goal of the season. Luna Paratore laid out for a reverse shot for the game winning goal. McMeeking now has three assists in three games.
Rake had two big saves in the fourth quarter to keep App State off the board and finished with a career-high eight saves.
