Spiders Drop First A-10 Match at Dayton Sunday Afternoon

DAYTON, Ohio. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team dropped its first Atlantic 10 Conference match of the year with a 4-0 loss at Dayton Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Spiders fell to 3-4-2 on the season and an even 1-1 in A-10 play while the Flyers improved to 7-3-0 overall and 1-1 in conference action.

How it Happened
Dayton wasted no time finding its offensive footing as the team posted two shots within the first five minutes. After a few fouls from the Spiders, UD was able to get a shot off in the 10^th minute before capitalizing in the 20^th minute off a cross into the Spider box. After exchanging possession, the Flyers added a goal to their lead in the 34^th minute. Kathryn Lennon would have a close look on frame in the 36^th minute, but would be collected by the UD keeper as Richmond ended the first half down a pair of goals.

Dayton continued its offensive threat in the second half as a yellow card in the 61^st minute for Richmond led to a penalty kick goal. Anna Garcia would have a shot in the 67^th minute, but was saved by the opposition. In the 81^stminute, Dayton was able to add its final goal after a scramble inside the Spider box. Casey Merz would have a final look in the 85^th minute, but would be wide right as Richmond dropped the match 4-0.

Notes on the Game

Richmond saw eight shots in the match, four on target and picked up a pair of corner kicks.
McKenna Dalfonso played the full 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves.
Garcia and Emma Shields paced the team with two shots each while four different Spiders had shots on frame.
The all-time series with Dayton moves to 3-16-1 in favor of the Flyers.
