Spiders Cruise Past Bonnies Behind Ullstrom’s 30-Point Game

RICHMOND, Va. – With 47 combined points from Rachel Ullstrom and Maggie Doogan, the University of Richmond women's basketball team picked up a dominating 98-60 win over St. Bonaventure Wednesday night inside the Robins Center. Richmond moves to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference action while the Bonnies fell to 5-12 and 1-5 in the A-10.

How it Happened
Rachel Ullstrom opened the scoring with a three-pointer while the Bonnies immediately responded on the other end of the court with a layup. Each team then recorded a triple before Addie Budnik sparked a 9-0 run with efforts from Ullstrom, Katie Hill and Anna Camden for a 15-5 advantage. SBU managed to get off a midrange jumper, but Doogan put the Spiders back into the scoring column with another three points. After exchanging a few buckets, Doogan and Ullstrom combined for back-to-back treys for an 11-point lead, 28-17. SBU cut through the Spider defense and posted two layups while Camden hit another triple to end the quarter with a 31-21 Richmond advantage.
The Spiders outpaced the Bonnies 30-12 in the second quarter as SBU posted a trey to open the frame before Sam Dewey and Hill made easy layups to respond. The teams exchanged points beyond the arcs before Steph Ouderkirk hit a midrange jumper, sparking a 6-0 run to push the lead to 44-27. After a lone three-pointer from SBU, Sweeney capitalized from deep and sparked a 10-0 run to hand Richmond a 24-point lead, 54-30. SBU managed one final trey as Ullstrom recorded back-to-back three-pointers and Camden capitalized on a jumper with 23 seconds left, sending Richmond into halftime ahead 61-33.
Sweeney hit a three-pointer to open the third quarter before the Bonnies responded with a layup, making it 64-35. Ullstrom then went on a scoring run, posting three consecutive layups while Camden followed with another layup for a 37-point Richmond lead, 72-35. After exchanging a couple of points, Ullstrom and Hill combined for four points to push the lead to 79-40. Sam Dewey added a layup down low as the Bonnies managed seven points to end the quarter at 81-47.
Dewey opened the fourth quarter with a layup as Richmond posted 12 unanswered points to open the final 10 minutes with a 93-47 advantage. The Spiders then built their lead to 47, 95-48, off two made free throws from Faith Alston, but the Bonnies ended the scoring drought with a three-pointer. Ouderkirk responded on the other end of the court with three points of her own for a 98-51 advantage. The Bonnies managed to hold Richmond at 98 in the final minutes as SBU went on a 9-0 run to end the game at 98-60.
Notes on the Game
- Rachel Ullstrom led the team with 30 points, marking her third game of the year with 30 or more points. She ended the evening with three rebounds, a block and a steal.
- Maggie Doogan posted her 17th-straight game in double figures with 17 points and recorded her first double-double of the season, sixth of her career and second of the season for Richmond with 12 rebounds and also added six assists. Ullstrom recorded a double-double earlier in the season at Fairfield with 17 points and 11 rebounds on 11/12/24.
- Two other Spiders finished the game in double figures: Ally Sweeney (14 pts) and Anna Camden (11 pts). Camden's 11 points marked her first double-figure game since posting 12 points vs William & Mary on 11/21/24. Camden added four rebounds and two assists while Sweeney recorded four boards, two assists and a team-high two steals. Addie Budnik also matched Doogan's six assists with six of her own.
- As a team, Richmond shot 40 of 65 (61.5%) from the floor, 16 of 32 (50%) from three-point range and added 35 rebounds, a season-high 28 assists, three blocks, six steals and 18 points off 13 SBU turnovers. Richmond's bench contributed 24 points in the game.
- Richmond's 28 assists are the most recorded by an A-10 team this season. Richmond previously had a season-high 27 assists in the game against Gardner-Webb on 11/15/24 and was tied with Rhode Island, who recorded 27 assists against Saint Francis on 12/20/24.
- The Spiders posted their most points in a half this year, recording 61 points at halftime.
- Doogan saw a +/- of +50 in the game, the highest by a mid-major player this year through 28 minutes.
- Richmond also recorded a season-high 40 made field goals, six shy of the Spider record of 46 vs Queens on 11/30/86 and most of all A-10 teams in conference play this year.
