
Swimming and Diving Celebrates Senior Day with Matchup Against Villanova

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving program celebrated seniors Laura Davis, Carstyn Klosterman and Leigh Spicer at the dual meet against Villanova on Saturday morning. The Wildcats topped the Spiders 165-135 at the Robins Center Natatorium.Â

The Spiders had six first-place finishes, with freshman Gabbie Primiano and sophomore Melissa Nwakalor grabbing two gold medal finishes each.

Nwakalor ended the day with wins in the 50 free at 22.52 and made a NIC B cut and the 100 free at 51:77.

Primiano won the breaststroke at 1:04.30 in the 100 and 2:18.52 in the 200 and made the NIC B cut.Â

The Spider 200 medley relay (A) finished first at 1:44.97. The relay was swum by junior Caroline Weldon (27.03), Primiano (29.63), freshman Lena Amare (25.88), and Nwakalor (22.43).Â

The 200 free relay (B) also saw success, as the Spiders finished first at 1:34.89. Amare (24.36), Nwakalor (22.80), junior Julia Krichev (23.99) and sophomore Presley Baber (23.74) swam the relay.

Other Spiders saw success in the water today. In the 1000 free, junior Natalie Stuart finished third at 10:40.41. Freshman Carys Edgar finished with a personal best at 10:43.68.Â

In the 400 IM, junior Katie Chignell swam and NIC B cut at 4:27.18 and finished second.Â

In the diving portion, three Spiders tallied new personal bests. In the 1m, junior Tess Weatherhead placed second with a personal best of 248.40 points. Junior Sally Harrington finished third with 246.23 points. Sophomore Rachel Vandersea finished seventh with a personal best of 225.23 points. Freshman Allison Brennan finished right behind with a personal best of 223.20.Â

In the 3m, Harrington led Richmond with a third-place finish with 254.48 points. Weatherhead finished fifth (248.03), Vandersea finished seventh with a personal best (236.40) and Brennan finished ninth (206.55).Â

Richmond is back in action next Friday as it takes on Navy in Annapolis, Md. at 2 p.m.Â
