01/23/2025 | General, Spider Performance
RICHMOND, Va. – This past weekend, the University of Richmond Athletics Department hosted the PowHER On event at the Jepson Alumni Center.Â
Â
The luncheon and panel were opportunities for Spider alumnae and current female student-athletes to collaborate, listen, share experiences, and celebrate their accomplishments.Â
Â
"Planning the PowHER On event was an incredible opportunity to spotlight the strength and resilience of women," Coordinator of Student-Athlete Leadership Development & Engagement Jalynn Spaulding said.
Â
"This event was especially meaningful to me because it provided our female student-athletes with a chance to connect with inspiring role models, gain valuable insights, and see what is possible beyond their time in sports. Creating a space where our female student-athletes could connect with strong, successful women was incredibly powerful. It highlighted the importance of providing these opportunities, ensuring they feel supported and inspired to pursue their own leadership paths. The event exceeded expectations, creating a lasting impression and reinforcing the significance of empowering women to lead and succeed in all areas of life."
Â
On the stage was facilitator Dr. Sandra J. Peart, dean of the University of Richmond's Jepson School of Leadership Studies, E. Claiborne Robins Distinguished Professor and President of the Jepson Scholars Foundation. The panelists included Laurie A. Governor Curtis '88 and '90 (Basketball), Allison Collins '99 (Lacrosse), Katherine O'Donnell '99, and Dr. Beatrice Grasu '07 (Tennis).
