Richmond, Va. — University of Richmond short-stick defensive midfielder Jack Pilling has been named a Third Team Nike Lacrosse Preseason Men's DI Media All-American, as announced by Inside Lacrosse on Thursday morning. Pilling, a junior, is one of just two Atlantic 10 men's lacrosse players to earn IL Preseason All-America honors, with Saint Joseph's defenseman Levi Verch receiving honorable mention recognition.
Last season, Pilling played all 16 games and earned Inside Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention honors. He scored two goals and recorded one assist while picking up 31 ground balls and causing 12 turnovers. In a win over High Point on April 13, Pilling recorded a career-high five caused turnovers, tying for eighth place on the program's single-game record list. Following that performance, he was named both Axia/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week and Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week. He was also recently ranked No. 14 on Inside Lacrosse's Top-20 Most Under-Appreciated Players list for 2025. Additionally, Pilling earned a spot on the Atlantic 10's Preseason All-Conference team.
With Pilling's help, Richmond reached third in the nation in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 9.38 goals per game, and Richmond's man-down defense was also one of the best in the country in 2024, ranking eighth at 0.745.
Pilling and the Spiders open the season on February 1 at preseason No. 5 Maryland before returning home on February 8 to face Robert Morris. Richmond enters the season ranked No. 18 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
