Miller Spurs Spider Field Hockey to Double OT Win Over Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Richmond field hockey team captured a double overtime victory over Davidson, 2-1, off the stick of freshman Reese Miller Friday evening at Belk Turf Field in Atlantic 10 action.
Grace Wiggins drove through three Wildcat defenders to the top of the circle and put the hard pass on the stick side of the goalkeeper for Miller to tip in her first collegiate goal for the game winner. Wiggins tallied her second assist of the year.
Richmond, improving to 7-5 on the year and 3-1 in conference action, captured the program's 12-straight victory over Davidson (7-5, 2-2) and third straight overtime win. The Spiders are back in action Sunday against Queens University at noon in Charlotte.
Davidson got on the board first, capitalizing on a penalty corner play in the first quarter.
Clara Larripa tied the game in the 18th minute, blasting the ball past the goalkeeper on a penalty corner play. Alexa Derr sent the ball in to Lillian Buckwalter for the stick stop and set up Larripa for her 11th goal of the season. Derr collected her seventh assist while Buckwalter tallied her first of the season.
Goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo had six saves on the day. Davidson had the upper hand in shots, 14-11, shots on goal, 7-5, and penalty corners, 9-7.
