Spider Hockey Collects Share of A-10 Regular Season Title With 2OT Win Over VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team defeated VCU, 2-1, Friday afternoon in double overtime at Cary Street Field to capture a share of the 2025 Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title as well as the top seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
This is the Spider field hockey program first regular season title since 2015. With the victory, Richmond finishes the regular season 11-7 and 5-1 in A-10 contests. As the top seed of the A-10 Championship, UR will face the four seed at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at Crenshaw Field.
In the second overtime, Clara Larripa zipped a pass just from nearly midfield up to Valen Luna Paratore at the top of the circle. Luna Paratore settled the pass then fired a reverse past the VCU goalkeeper for the victory in the 74th minute.
Larripa put the Spider on the board in the first quarter, driving through VCU defense and beating the VCU keeper one-on-one in the 8th minute of action.
VCU tied the game on a penalty corner play in the 49th minute of action and forced overtime.
At the half, Richmond held the upper hand in shots, 4-1, and corners, 4-2. VCU flipped the momentum and had 13 shots in the final 43 minutes of action and held UR to just one shot. VCU also did not allow UR a penalty corner the rest of the contest while picking up six more of their own.
Richmond goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo made nine huge saves, including three in the third quarter.
