11/06/2025 | Field Hockey
RICHMOND, Va. – The top seeded Richmond field hockey team advanced to the 2025 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship after defeating four seed Davidson, 4-2, Thursday, Nov. 6 at Crenshaw Field.
Richmond, improving to 12-7 on the year, will face three seed Saint Joseph's, now 10-9, after the Hawks defeated two-seed VCU, 3-2, in double overtime. The 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship game is set for Saturday, Nov. 8 at noon at Crenshaw Field and will be streamed on ESPN+ and on the Atlantic10 Network internationally.
This is the Spiders first appearance in the title game since 2019, when Richmond last hosted the conference championship. Richmond's last A-10 title came in 2014, also won at Crenshaw Field.
After a scoreless first quarter, Davidson tallied the first goal of the game in the 18th minute.
Clara Larripa quickly responded, scoring her first goal of the day on a direct insert from Alexa Derr on the Spiders only penalty corner opportunity of the second quarter in the 23rd minute.
Larripa and Derr teamed up for the Spiders second goal of the game in the 32nd minute, again connecting on a direct insert on a penalty corner play. Larripa tallied her 20th goal of the season just a minute and a half later, driving through the Wildcat defense for a backhanded goal into the top corner of the goal.
On the Spiders second corner play of the third quarter, Derr inserted the ball to Larripa. Her shot was tipped to Emma Williams and the ball trickled across the goal line right to Derr for the tip in goal to give UR a 4-1 lead.
Davidson added a second goal in the 39th minute. Richmond had the upper hand in shots, 16-12, and shots on goal, 8-3, while both teams collected six penalty corners.
Richmond goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo's only save of the contest came in the 55th minute. Cimillo made a diving stick stop to get back to position and not allow the Wildcats to shift offensive momentum.
