WASHINGTON, DC – Richmond's Clara Larripa was named Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Offensive Player of the week, the league announced Monday. This is Larripa's first weekly honor of the season and second of her Spider career. Richmond has collected five weekly league honors this season.
Larripa led the Spiders with five goals on the weekend, doubling her season total to lead the team with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points. Against Saint Louis (Oct. 3), Larripa scored Richmond's lone goal in the ninth minute of action on a direct insert on a penalty corner from Alexa Derr.
In Richmond's dominate 5-0 victory over Ball State (Oct. 5), Larripa collected a hat trick in the first half. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native's scoring got going in the first quarter with a one-timer from the top of the circle after a restart by Grace Wiggins at the 25-yard line at the 4:14 mark.
In the 26th minute of action, Larripa got a pass from just beyond the 25-yard line then drove away from the goal in the circle to fire a fadeaway power shot past the goalkeeper. Her second goal of the quarter came of a direct insert from Alexa Derr on the Spiders sixth penalty corner of the half.
Larripa's fourth goal of the day came in the 55th minute. Derr sent in a pass from the 25-yard line towards the corner, Larripa then drove the ball down the baseline and sent it in low past the goalkeeper's ankles. This matched a career-high set last season against William & Mary.
Richmond, now 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 action, heads south to take on Davidson, 7-4 on the year and 2-1 league play, Friday, Oct. 10 at Belk Turf Field at 5 p.m. on ESPN+. The Spiders wrap up the road trip in North Carolina Sunday, facing Queens Sunday at 12 p.m. in Charlotte.
