RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond women's tennis team delivered a strong performance on home courts over the weekend, combining for nine total victories at the River City Open. The Spiders were led by Lainey O'Neil, who went undefeated in singles play and added a doubles win, while the duo of Elizabeth Novak and Lucy Webber swept both of their doubles matches.
O'Neil posted two of the team's six singles victories, defeating Hampton's Tanyaradzwa Midzi 6-4, 6-3 and George Washington's Madison Lee 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. The sophomore also paired with freshman Beatriz Guerra for a 6-1 doubles win over Hampton's Serena Bryan and Toffee Ghorab.
Novak bounced back from a narrow opening loss to secure a gritty 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 win over GW's Devika Manu, and teamed up with Webber to earn 6-1 and 6-4 doubles victories against George Washington opponents. Guerra added a straight-set singles win against GW's Victoria Sasinka (6-2, 6-4), while Amy Walsh defeated Hampton's Melis Sakiroglu 6-4, 6-4 for her second singles win of the fall. Abby Lee also opened the weekend with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 decision over GW's Sasinka.
