Top of the A-10! Barbulescu, Bakhaya Capture Doubles Crown, Qualify for ITA Conference Masters in San Diego
10/06/2025 | Women's Tennis
DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team continued its strong fall campaign over the weekend, as Sofia Barbulescu and Lara Bakhaya captured the doubles title at the Atlantic 10 Conference Masters Qualifier to earn a spot in the ITA Conference Masters Championship, set for Nov. 6-9 in San Diego, Calif.
Barbulescu and Bakhaya shined as a duo, opening the tournament with a hard-fought 9-8 win over Davidson's Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford before dominating VCU's Andrea Magallanes and Sofia Jane Thorne, 6-2, 6-0, in the championship match. The title marks Richmond's second straight qualification for the ITA Conference Masters, following Barbulescu's singles appearance at the national event in 2024.
In singles play, Barbulescu nearly defended her 2024 qualifier title with another impressive run, advancing to the final after three-set victories over Davidson's Bryson Langford and Fordham's Valerija Maija Kargina. The sophomore ultimately came up just short in the championship round, falling to Fordham's Nevena Kolarevic, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
