Women’s Tennis Announces 2026 Spring Schedule
12/17/2025 | Women's Tennis
RICHMOND, Va – The University of Richmond women's tennis team announced its 2026 spring schedule on Wednesday, highlighted by a balanced slate of top non-conference matches, key Atlantic 10 Conference swings and a spring break trip to California.
Head coach Jacob Dunbar enters his fourth year at the helm of the Spider women's tennis program.
"This year we will have some challenging matches early in the season but also a lot of matches throughout the year that will push us," Dunbar said. "We will need to not just be good but consistent, and I think that excites me."
Richmond opens the spring on Jan. 13 at Virginia before returning home to host Northwestern on Jan. 18 and Longwood on Jan. 24 at the Raintree Swim & Racquet Club. The Spiders remain on the road late in January with matches at Navy and A-10 foe George Mason before February play includes a home contest against William & Mary on Feb. 18 and road trips to Maryland (Feb. 14) and James Madison (Feb. 28).
March features a key stretch of the schedule, beginning with a home match against Campbell on March 4. Richmond then heads west during spring break for three matches in California, facing Cal State Fullerton on March 8, UC Irvine on March 10 and CSUN on March 13.
"Our trip west will give us another batch of challenging matches but matches that will force us to be our best leading into conference play the second half of the year," Dunbar said. "That time of year is pivotal for everyone to turn the corner and find their groove."
The Spiders return home later in the month to host Georgetown on March 21 and ECU on March 28, with a road contest at crosstown rival VCU on March 27 mixed into the stretch.
April closes the regular season with a blend of conference and non-conference play. Richmond travels to Davidson for a neutral matchup with Rhode Island on April 4 before closing the road portion of the schedule against the Wildcats on April 5 and Old Dominion on April 18. Home matches against Liberty on April 10, Hampton on April 11 and Duquesne on April 17 round out the regular season slate for the Spiders.
The Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for April 22-25 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Richmond has reached the championship final in each of the past two seasons.
Richmond returns a roster that gained valuable experience in the fall, highlighted by Sofia Barbulescu and Lara Bakhaya winning the Atlantic 10 Conference Masters qualifying tournament in doubles to earn a spot in the Conference Masters Tournament in San Diego, Calif. It marked the second straight fall that Richmond was represented at the event, following Barbulescu's singles qualification the year prior.
"The fall definitely gave us chances for everyone to learn and go through some challenges," Dunbar said. "This year in particular many of the players will need to step into bigger roles and I think the fall made that clear. I'm happy with how many of them have handled the pressure and I know they can also take additional steps come spring."
