Spiders Roll to 25th Straight Home League Win in A-10 Opener

RICHMOND, Va. – Riding a combined 39 points from Maggie Doogan and Rachel Ullstrom, the University of Richmond women's basketball team opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 69-46 win over Loyola Chicago Wednesday night inside the Robins Center. With the win, the Spiders improved to 7-2 on the year and 1-0 in A-10 action while the Ramblers fell to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the A-10.

How it Happened
Ullstrom opened the scoring with a triple before the Ramblers responded with a layup. Ullstrom then posted four points, while Tierra Simon and Doogan added five points to build an early 12-2 Spider lead. After LUC recorded a jumper, five points from Richmond ended the quarter with the Spiders ahead 17-4.
The Ramblers opened the second 10 minutes with a layup before Simon and Ullstrom combined for back-to-back layups to give the Spiders a 15-point lead, 21-6. After two layups from the opposition, Newell completed an and-one play, sparking a 14-0 run behind three triples from Ullstrom and a bucket from Sweeney to send Richmond into halftime up 35-10.
LUC started the scoring in the third with a triple before Doogan responded with a layup, sparking a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 44-13 with 5:03 left in the quarter. The Ramblers added another triple before Ullstrom knocked down a free throw. LUC then followed with a layup off a Spider turnover to cut the margin to 45-20. Sam Dewey halted the stretch with a layup, though the Ramblers immediately answered. A free throw from Newell and two from LUC closed the quarter with Richmond ahead 48-24.
Rayne Wright opened the final frame with a free throw before Payton Richard followed with a layup to push the lead to 51-24. After two points from LUC, Ava Persichetti connected from deep, but the Ramblers responded with a 7-0 run to make it 54-33. Doogan buried a trey to push the margin back to 25, though LUC trimmed it to 20 after four straight points to make it 65-45 with 1:03 remaining. Dewey and Newell combined for four points while the Ramblers added a final free throw as Richmond closed out the 69-46 win.

- Maggie Doogan paced the Spiders with 20 points and added a team-high nine rebounds while dishing out five assists. She also recorded two blocks and hit four three pointers.

- Alicia Newell was the third Spider in double figures, finishing with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and a career-high five steals.
