Richmond Overcomes Slow Start to Top Saint Louis on Senior Day

RICHMOND, Va. – With the Spiders trailing to open the fourth quarter, Addie Budnik notched back-to-back triples to tie the game at 43 as the University of Richmond women's basketball team outpaced visiting Saint Louis 22-6 in the final frame to pick up a 59-49 win on Senior Day Sunday afternoon inside the Robins Center. With the tight victory, the Spiders picked up their 12th-straight win and improved to 22-5 overall and 13-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play while the Billikens fell to 11-16 overall and 5-9 in conference play.

How it Happened
Katie Hill opened up the scoring for the Spiders with a layup before a 6-0 run from the Billikens gave the opposition a 6-2 advantage. Hill ended the scoring drought for the Spiders with a triple to cut the deficit to one, 6-5, but Saint Louis immediately responded on the other end with a trey and a layup following a Richmond turnover. Two free throws from the Spiders would cut the Billiken advantage to four, 11-7, but SLU continued its offensive threat, ending the quarter with a 7-0 run to lead 18-7.
Rachel Ullstrom opened the second quarter with two made free throws before Saint Louis posted a layup to keep its lead in double digits, 20-9. Anna Camden and Faith Alston then combined for four points to trail 20-13. After exchanging a few more points, Ullstrom sparked a 4-0 spurt for Richmond while the Billikens ended the half with two made free throws to send Richmond into the locker room trailing 32-25.
Budnik opened the third quarter with a layup before an and-one play from the Billikens kept SLU ahead by eight, 35-27. Ullstrom got the Spiders back on track with a layup, but SLU had the answer on the other end, netting a layup to keep the deficit at eight. After exchanging a couple of points, Saint Louis pushed the lead back to double figures off a triple, but a triple from Ally Sweeney and a layup from Budnik sent Richmond into the final 10 minutes trailing 43-37.
The Spiders finally found their rhythm in the final 10 minutes, outpacing the Billikens 22-6. Budnik opened the scoring with two key back-to-back triples to tie the game at 43. SLU then added a layup to go up two before Faith Alston sparked an 11-0 run to give Richmond a seven-point lead, 54-47. After the Billikens got off another lone layup, Alston, Doogan and Budnik combined for five made free throws to give the Spiders a 10-point Senior Day win, 59-49.

Notes on the Game
- Addie Budnik and Rachel Ullstrom paced the team with 16 points each as Budnik finished the contest with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Ullstrom ended the game with a team-high seven rebounds and four steals.
- Ally Sweeney dished out a team-high four assists while Maggie Doogan recorded four blocks to lead the team.
- Doogan, who finished with eight points, saw her 24-game double-figure scoring streak end. Doogan last scored less than 10 points in the game against Morgan State on 11/9/24, when she had four points.
- The Spiders posted their fourth-straight win over the Billikens.
- As a team, the Spiders shot 19 of 51 (37.3%) from the floor, 7 of 24 (28.2%) from deep and 14 of 21 (66.7%) from the free throw line. In addition, the Spiders posted 35 rebounds, 13 being offensive, 13 assists, four blocks and 11 steals.
