Spiders Secure 23rd-Straight Home Conference Win Behind Doogan’s 10th Career Double-Double

RICHMOND, Va. – Maggie Doogan collected 26 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th career double-double as the University of Richmond women's basketball team defeated George Washington 67-57 Wednesday night inside the Robins Center for the team's 13th-straight win and the program's 23rd-straight home conference win. Following the victory, the Spiders improved to 23-5 overall and 14-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference action while the Revolutionaries fell to 11-15 and 4-11 in conference play.

How it Happened
The Spiders got off to a slow start as George Washington began the game on a 6-0 run before Doogan posted the first points for the Spiders with a triple to cut the deficit to three, 6-3. After a jumper from the opposition, Doogan and Rachel Ullstrom combined for nine points while Anna Camden followed the duo with a layup to put the Spiders ahead by six, 14-8. GW then posted a 6-0 spurt to end the quarter deadlocked at 14.
Two free throws from the Revolutionaries opened the second quarter before Ally Sweeney posted a triple at the 8:14 mark to give Richmond a one-point lead, and Doogan followed with a layup to put UR ahead by three, 19-16. After a 7-0 run from GW to regain the lead by four, 23-19, Alyssa Jimenez ended the drought for the Spiders with a trey to come within one. Faith Alston then went on a 4-0 run with two free throws and a layup for a 26-23 advantage, but the Revolutionaries responded with a trey to tie the game at 26. The two teams exchanged points on both ends of the court to head into halftime with Richmond down by one, 35-34.
Katie Hill immediately tied the game at 35 just 12 seconds into the third frame with a lone free throw before Doogan gave UR the lead with two made free throws. A triple from the opposition gave the visitors back the lead, but Ullstrom responded on the other end of the court with a trey of her own to put UR ahead, 40-38. After GW tied the game at 40, and again at 43, Sweeney and Doogan combined for seven points to put Richmond ahead, 50-43. GW managed to put up a triple, but Ullstrom had the response in front of the home bench with a trey of her own to preserve the lead at seven, 53-46. Each team rounded out the quarter with a layup as the Spiders went into the final 10 minutes leading 55-48.

After a lone free throw from GW, Hill recorded a layup before Doogan went on a 5-0 run to give the Spiders a 64-55 advantage. GW cut the lead back down to seven after a layup, but a lone free throw and an additional two points from Doogan handed the Spiders a 10-point win, 67-57.

- The team was paced by Maggie Doogan, who finished the game with 26 points, shooting 9 of 12 from the floor, 4 of 6 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line for her 70th career game scoring in double figures. In addition, she posted her 10th career double-double and fifth of the season with 11 rebounds and added three assists and a block.
- Rachel Ullstrom also ended the game in double figures as she posted 18 points in addition to five boards and three assists.
- As a team, Richmond shot 24 of 48 (50%) from the field, 11 of 27 (40.7%) from beyond the arc and 8 of 11 (72.7%) from the charity stripe. In addition, the team recorded 33 rebounds, 17 assists, three blocks and three steals.
- The game saw 13 lead changes, while the two teams tied the game six times.
- The Spiders continue their longest win streak since the 1989-90 season (15 straight wins), with 13 straight victories dating back to an 82-52 win at Massachusetts on Jan. 5.
