No. 20 Richmond Falls to No. 17 Navy at Home

RICHMOND, Va. – In a top-20 matchup, the University of Richmond's women's lacrosse team fell 21-11 to Navy on Tuesday afternoon at Robins Stadium.Â

With the loss, the Spiders fall to 2-1, while the Midshipmen improve to 3-0. Richmond experiences its first loss of the season.Â
Â
Senior Grace Muldoon led Richmond with four goals. Senior Colleen Quinn finished with four points on two goals and two assists. Junior Juliana Stanley netted two goals, and graduate student Whitney Liebler, junior Charlotte Edwards, and freshman Keating Hopkins each tallied a goal. Junior Alexis Morton finished with five points, recording five assists.

In goal, sophomore Abby Francioli collected eight saves.Â

Navy was quick to score, netting five straight goals, 5-0. Stanley stopped the Midshipmen momentum as she put one past the keeper, 5-1. With four more goals, Navy extended its lead 9-1. Closing the first quarter, Edwards shot past her defenders to cut Richmond's deficit 9-2. In the second quarter, Liebler found Hopkins to score the first goal of the frame, 9-3. After Navy netted a goal, Quinn scored her first goal before halftime to bring the Spiders within six, 10-4.Â

At the start of the second half, Muldoon scored back-to-back goals, 10-6. Possession was split in the third quarter as the Spiders and Midshipmen exchanged goals. At the end of the quarter, Navy outscored Richmond six to five, taking the 16-9 lead heading into the fourth. In the last frame of the game, Richmond scored two straight goals, but Navy sealed their 21-11 victory finishing with five goals in the final quarter.Â

The Spiders are back at Robins Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 22 for their One Love game against Liberty at 1 p.m.
