Budnik Shines as Spiders Extend Win Streak to 15, Remain Unbeaten at Home in A-10 Action

RICHMOND, Va. – In the final home contest for Spider great Addie Budnik, the University of Richmond women's basketball team notched its 15th-straight win to mark a program best as the team defeated Davidson 59-46 Wednesday evening inside the Robins Center. Richmond finishes the regular season home slate at 12-2 and posted its 24th-straight home conference win dating back to 2023 in addition to moving to 25-5 overall and 16-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference while Davidson fell to 17-12 and 12-5 in conference play.

How it Happened
Ally Sweeney opened the scoring for Richmond with a jumper while Maggie Doogan followed the play with a triple for an early 5-0 Spider lead. Davidson responded to Doogan's triple with one of its own to cut the deficit to two. Rachel Ullstrom then combined with Doogan for five points to push ahead 10-3, but a put-back layup from the opposition would cut the lead to five. Faith Alston ended the quarter for the Spiders with a layup as Richmond led 13-5 through 10 minutes.
Budnik gave the Spiders a 10-point lead, 15-5, to open the third quarter before Davidson recorded a layup on the other coast. Doogan pushed UR back up to 11, 18-7 from a hoop-and-harm, while Katie Hill posted a trey for a 14-point advantage. After a lone layup from the Wildcats, Budnik and Ullstrom combined for four points for a 25-9 lead. Davidson ended its drought with a trey, but Anna Camden immediately responded with a layup to lead 27-12 at the 4:40 mark. The Wildcats then made an and-one play as Alston and Alyssa Jimenez chipped in five points for a 17-point advantage, 32-15. Five points from Davidson would end the half with the Spiders ahead, 32-20.
A 7-0 run from Davidson cut the Spider lead to five, 32-27, before Budnik posted back-to-back triples to rebuild the Spider lead to 38-27. After two back-to-back layups from Davidson, Ullstrom and Alston combined for four points while Davidson netted two layups to end the quarter with the Spiders ahead 42-35.
The Spiders opened the final frame with four points courtesy of Doogan and Jimenez for a 46-35 advantage. Davidson then managed to go on an 8-0 run to scratch back within a one-possession game, 46-43. Camden ended the scoring drought with a layup, before a trey from Davidson cut the UR lead to two, 48-46. Ullstrom hit a huge triple with 4:16 left in the game, which sparked an 11-0 run with key efforts from seniors Budnik and Alston as the Spiders took the victory in the regular season home finale, 59-46.
Notes on the Game
· The Spiders were paced by Addie Budnik, who posted 15 points and added two rebounds and three steals to her stat line.
· Two other Spiders finished the game in double figures in Maggie Doogan (11 pts) and Faith Alston (10 pts), who posted her third game at Richmond in double figures. Doogan paced the team with eight rebounds and three assists while Anna Camden had a team-high two blocks.
· As a team, the Spiders shot 21-of-51 (41.2%) from the floor, 9-of-21 (42.9%) from deep and a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. In addition, the team saw 30 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 thefts and three blocks as the Spider bench recorded 19 points. Richmond also saw 19 points off 20 Wildcat turnovers.
· The Spiders finish the home slate at 12-2, with the lone home losses coming from then-No.6 Texas on Dec. 15 and a two-point heartbreaker to Georgetown on Dec. 4, 55-53. The Spiders will take their 24th-straight home conference victory into the 2025-26 season, as the team hasn't dropped an A-10 home game since a 54-51 output against VCU on Jan. 11, 2023.
· Budnik concludes her time inside the Robins Center posting 726 points through 66 games and five seasons and has climbed the all-time leading scorer ranks to No. 3 all-time scorers with 1,836 career points.
· Richmond snapped the Wildcats' seven-game win streak. In the first meeting with Davidson on Jan. 12, the Spiders snapped a six-game win streak for the 'Cats.
· Richmond shot 100% from the free throw line (8-8) for the second time this season. Richmond went 2-for-2 from the line against St. Bonaventure on Jan. 15, 2025.

UR will open the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship on March 7 at 11 a.m. on Peacock as the team secured the No. 1 seed and the regular season title after defeating VCU on Feb. 23.
