RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond women's basketball guard Rachel Ullstrom has been named to the midseason watch list for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced Monday.
Ullstrom, who has been a standout for the Spiders this season, joins a prestigious group of 50 players in contention for the national player of the year honor. The award, named after UCLA legend Ann Meyers Drysdale, recognizes the top player in women's college basketball each season.
Through the 2024-25 campaign, Ullstrom has been a dominant force for Richmond, averaging 16.3 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, and is shooting 56.6% from the field and 46.3% from beyond the arc. She posted a career-high 35 points against Oakland on 11/29/24, where she broke the program record for triples in a game with 11.
Her inclusion on the watch list places her among the top players in the nation, joining elite talent from powerhouse programs such as UConn, LSU, Texas and South Carolina.
The USBWA has presented a women's national player of the year award since the 1987-88 season, formally renaming it in Drysdale's honor in 2011-12. A three-time All-American at UCLA, Drysdale was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
Ullstrom and the Spiders will look toward the final stretch of the regular season, returning to action on Wednesday for a road matchup with La Salle at 6:30 p.m.
