WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse program has been picked as the preseason favorite for the third consecutive year in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.Â
Â
The Spiders received eight first-place votes, earning 118 points. Massachusetts was picked second, tallying 112 points with three first-place votes. Saint Joseph's followed in third (98), Davidson in fourth (89) and VCU in fifth (68). The remainder of the institutions followed in the six-through-eleven finishes: St. Bonaventure (64), George Mason (60), George Washington (41), Duquesne (35), La Salle (22) and Rhode Island (19).
Â
Richmond is coming off back-to-back Atlantic 10 Championship titles, led by head coach Anne Harrington. Now in her fourth season, she led the 2024 campaign with a 13-6 finish and a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.
Â
In addition to being chosen as the preseason favorite, three Spiders were named to the preseason All-Conference team: senior Hannah Custer at defense, senior Colleen Quinn at attack and senior Grace Muldoon at midfield.
Â
A lockdown defender, Custer returns to Richmond's defensive unit. Last season, she started all 19 games and tallied 35 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers and five draw controls. She also held the Atlantic 10 leader in goals per game, Kassidy Morris of UMass, to her only zero-point game of the season. Custer also returns this season as a second-year captain.
Â
A goal-scoring machine, Quinn started all 19 games and was Richmond's scoring leader with 72 points (49 goals and 23 assists) last season. She also collected 12 draw controls, eight ground balls and caused three turnovers. Quinn led the team in goal-scoring, netting 49 goals in the 2024 season. Quinn capped the 2024 season earning A-10 All-Conference Attack First Team, A-10 All-Tournament Team and A-10 All-Academic Team. She also returns this season as a second-year captain.
Â
Muldoon bolstered her resume with multiple accolades from her 2024 campaign. A key returner for the midfield unit, she enters the season as a USA Lacrosse Preseason All-America honoree and IL Women's Preseason Top Players at No. 49. Last season, Muldoon started all 19 games and finished the season with 59 points (37 goals and 22 assists), 34 ground balls, 20 caused turnovers and 61 draw controls. Muldoon earned A-10 Midfielder of the Year, A-10 All-Conference Midfield First Team, A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player, A-10 All-Tournament Team, USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention and IWLCA South Region First Team.
