RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Georgetown on Sunday at the Westhampton Tennis Complex, marking the Spiders' first win over the Hoyas since a 4-1 triumph on March 28, 2019. Following the win, Richmond improved to 9-6 on the season while the Hoyas fell to 6-9.
How It Happened
The Spiders opened the match on a high note, winning two of three matches to secure the opening point. Sofia Barbulescu and Elizabeth Novak cruised to a 6-1 win over Natasha Kavarana and Carolyn Schaefer (GTWN) on court two. Georgetown evened the doubles matches as the Hoyas picked up a 6-3 win on court three, but Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico clinched the point with a solid 6-3 victory over Ashley Kennedy and Katie Garofolo-Ro (GTWN) on court one.
In singles, Bakhaya dominated Garofolo-Ro (GTWN) 6-0, 6-1 on court three to extend Richmond's lead. Georgetown then responded with wins on courts one and five to even the match at 2-2. Campodonico delivered a crucial 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Kennedy (GTWN) on court two before Lainey O'Neil secured the clinching point with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Molly Evans (GTWN) on court six. The Hoyas picked up one final singles win on court four, but the Spiders took the match 4-3.
