Spiders Fight to 10th-Place Finish in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Richmond Spiders battled wind and rain in the final round of the UMD Terp Invitational Monday at University of Maryland Golf Course. With temperatures in the mid-40s and sustained winds of 10-15 mph, UR recorded a team score of 308 (+20) in Round 3 to finish the event at 37-over par, placing ninth in the 14-team field.

The Spiders were led by sophomore Maya Beasley's even-par 72 Monday, which moved her nine spots up the individual leaderboard into a tie for 11th at 3-over par (219).

"Conditions were super tough but coach prepared us out of the gate really well," said Beasley. "Mentally, I knew I couldn't control the weather so I tried not to focus on that and be super patient out there."

Beasley has now finished in the top 20 in each of her last seven events, a stretch that dates back to the Evie Odom Invitational in October.

Freshman Katie Magner tied for 30th with a total score of 9-over par (225), her lowest tournament score of the season. Magner played par 5s in 3-under par during the event, tied for fifth best among the 83 golfers in the field.

Freshman Caroline Thompson tied for 47th at 14-over par (230), one shot in front of junior Olivia Wilkie, who tied for 51st (15-over 231).

Senior Lauren Jones placed 73rd at 24-over par (240).

Richmnond will return to action in 10 days at the inaugural Atlantic 10 Women's Golf Championship, hosted at Evermore Resort in Orlando, Fla. from April 17-19.
