Richmond Falls to UMass in Atlantic 10 Championship Semifinal

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team fell 16-11 to No. 1 seed UMass on Friday afternoon at Robins Stadium in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinal.
With the loss, the Spiders finish the season 11-8 overall and 7-3 in A-10 play. UMass improves to 14-3 overall and will play in the championship Sunday.
Alexis Morton (four goals) and Grace Muldoon (two goals and two assists) led the team in points. Whitney Liebler and Colleen Quinn each scored a goal and added an assist. Juliana Stanley, Charlotte Edwards and Keating Hopkins each scored a goal.
In goal, Abby Francioli collected 10 saves in 60 minutes of play.
UMass scored the first two goals of the game and led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Spiders netted three goals, but the Minutewomen scored six. UMass led 9-5 at halftime.
Richmond opened the second half with a goal, but UMass responded with three straight. The Spiders added another before the end of the third quarter and trailed 12-7 entering the final frame. Both teams scored four goals in the fourth, but UMass' early lead secured the win and a spot in the title game.
