RICHMOND, Va. — President's Field at River Road will receive new playing surfaces and an expanded campus footprint for the 2025-26 school year, Richmond Athletics announced Friday.
The facility, situated on the south end of Richmond's campus between Crenshaw Way and River Road, is the game day home of the Spider soccer program and a practice facility for Spider lacrosse. Work to resod the soccer field with a new species of Bermuda grass and remove and replace the field turf on the lacrosse practice field will begin later this month.
Additionally, a retaining wall on the facility's western edge will be constructed to allow the lacrosse field to shift 20 feet in that direction, creating extra space between the soccer and lacrosse fields. This will allow for greater field coverage during SpiderTV broadcasts and create space for future enhancements to the venue.
Spider soccer will host Coastal Carolina in its home opener on August 17, the start of its seventh season on President's Field following the program's move to the facility from Robins Stadium in 2019.
Richmond's athletic facilities have consistently been ranked among the best in the nation. In the most recent rankings released by The Princeton Review, UR's suite of facilities is ranked No. 8 nationally.
