Second Half Goals Secure Road Victory for Spider Field Hockey Over ODU

NORFOLK, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team collected the program's first victory over Old Dominion, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at L. R. Hill Sports Complex. The Spiders snapped the Monarchs 38-0 win streak in the series.
Richmond, now 3-3 on the season, returns to Crenshaw Field to open Atlantic 10 Conference action hosting Lock Haven Friday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
ODU held the upper hand in the first half, outpacing UR in shots, 6-1, and corners, 1-0. The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead into the half after scoring in the 25th minute of the game. UR goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo tallied two saves in the first half.
In the second half, the Spiders made the most of the possession the squad had, firing off three shots with two on frame.
Clara Larripa tallied her second goal of the weekend in the 41st minute to tie the game at 1-all. Larripa leads Richmond with eight points on three goals and two assists in six games.
Amy Stripling tallied her first collegiate game winning goal in the 50th minute of action, scoring off a pass from fellow first year Reese Miller. Stripling is second on the team with seven points with three goals and one assist, while Miller tallied her first collegiate point with her helper.
ODU finished with nine shots, five on frame, and held Richmond to four shots and three on frame. The Monarchs did not relinquish a penalty corner to the Spiders. Cimillo finished with four saves, one each period, on the day.
