Derr Named A-10 Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

WASHINGTON, DC – University of Richmond's Alexa Derr was named Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. This Derr's first weekly conference honor and the Spiders fourth of the season.
Derr, a native of Palmyra, Pa., helped the Spiders improve to 2-0 in A-10 action Friday with a 2-1 overtime victory against La Salle, as a vital part of UR's penalty corner units. She collected her second assist of the season on a direct insert to Clara Larripa in the second quarter against La Salle. She was also a key part of the Spider defense that held the Explorers to just six shots with two on goal and three penalty corners.
Against Temple, Derr collected her first defensive save of the season when the goalkeeper was pulled late in the game.
On the season, Derr is fourth on the team with six points on two goals and two assists.
Richmond, now 5-4 on the season, is back in action Friday, October 3 against Saint Louis for a 2 p.m. contest at Crenshaw Field. The game is free to attend and will be streamed on ESPN+.
