Doogan Breaks Program Scoring Record, Posts NCAA Season High in Triple-Overtime Win Over Davidson

RICHMOND, Va. – Maggie Doogan scored 48 points, breaking a University of Richmond women's basketball program record and posting the most points scored in an NCAA Division I game this season, as the Spiders picked up a marquee Atlantic 10 Conference win over Davidson, 91-84, in triple overtime Saturday night inside the Robins Center. With the win, Richmond improved to 14-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play and extended its Atlantic 10 home winning streak to 27 games, while the Wildcats fell to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in league action.

How It Happened
Ally Sweeney opened the scoring for the Spiders with a layup before Davidson answered on the other end. A 4-0 run by the Wildcats gave the visitors a four-point lead, 6-2, before Maggie Doogan stopped the run with a layup. Rachel Ullstrom followed with a three-pointer to put Richmond back in front, 7-6. The teams continued to trade baskets throughout the opening quarter, which ended tied at 13.
Doogan opened the second quarter with a jumper, but Davidson responded with a layup to tie the game at 15. Another 4-0 spurt by the Wildcats pushed the visitors ahead, 19-15, before Doogan again answered with two points to cut the deficit to two. After a Davidson three-pointer, Doogan kept Richmond within striking distance with another layup. The Wildcats closed the half with back-to-back three-pointers to take a 30-21 lead into the break.
Out of halftime, Ullstrom knocked down a three-pointer to cut the margin to six, 30-24, but Davidson answered with a jumper to preserve its lead. A three-point play by Sweeney brought Richmond within four, and Sam Dewey followed with a layup to make it a two-point game. Davidson responded with a three-pointer and later rebuilt its advantage to seven, 42-35. Doogan then sparked an 8-0 Richmond run, as she and Ullstrom each connected from deep and Sweeney added two free throws to give the Spiders a 43-42 edge heading into the fourth quarter.
Davidson opened the fourth quarter with a three-point play to regain the lead. Doogan tied the game with a layup, but the Wildcats responded with five straight points to build a 50-45 advantage. Rayne Wright and Doogan combined for six consecutive free throws to pull Richmond within one, and Ullstrom later added a layup to make it 55-51 with 6:03 remaining. Two Davidson free throws pushed the lead back to six before Doogan drilled a three-pointer to make it 57-54. Ava Persichetti added a free throw, and Sweeney finished at the rim to tie the game at 57. With 42 seconds left, Doogan converted two free throws to give Richmond a 65-63 lead, but Davidson answered at the line to force overtime.

- Maggie Doogan scored 48 points to set a new program single-game scoring record, surpassing Karen Elsner's 39-point performance against Radford on Feb. 2, 1983.
- Doogan's 48-point performance marked the most points scored in an NCAA Division I game this season and the most ever in an Atlantic 10 Conference game, surpassing Sue Wicks' 44-point outing for Rutgers at George Washington on Dec. 5, 1987.
- Doogan also tied the program single-game record with 17 field goals made. She finished the game shooting 17-of-28 from the field, 8-of-12 from deep and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
- Doogan recorded her 18th career double-double with 13 rebounds and added two steals and an assist. She logged her 94th career game in double figures and 34th career game with at least 20 points.
- Ally Sweeney finished with 18 points, while Rachel Ullstrom added 12 points to round out Richmond's double-figure scorers. Tierra Simon paced the Spiders with five assists.
