CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team opened its 2026 spring slate on Tuesday, dropping a 7-0 decision at No. 14 Virginia at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. The match marked the season opener for the Spiders, who begin the year at 0-1, while the nationally ranked Cavaliers improved to 1-0.

Virginia secured the opening point by sweeping doubles play, earning wins on courts three, two and one to take a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
Richmond battled across the singles lineup, highlighted by a three-set match on court two. Lara Bakhaya took the opening set against Annabelle Xu before the match was decided in favor of UVA in a 10-7 tiebreak. Elizabeth Novak pushed Martina Genis Salas to a tight second set on court three, while the remaining singles matches were decided in straight sets as the Cavaliers closed out the contest, 7-0.
