Ullstrom Erupts for 27 as Richmond Downs Fordham Inside the Robins Center

RICHMOND, Va. – Behind a season-high 27 points from Rachel Ullstrom and Maggie Doogan's sixth double-double of the season, the University of Richmond women's basketball team picked up an 84-65 win over Fordham Wednesday night inside the Robins Center to improve to 13-4 overall and 3-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Rams fell to 8-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play following the loss.

How it Happened
Rachel Ullstrom opened the game with a triple, before the Rams responded on the other end with a trey of their own. Ullstrom then gave the Spiders back the lead with a layup, but Fordham continued to have an answer, posting a layup 22 seconds later to tie the game at five. Maggie Doogan then recorded her first points of the game, posting five-straight points to hand Richmond a 10-5 lead, but the Rams immediately cut the lead to three off a layup. After back-to-back layups from the Spiders, the opposition responded with a 9-0 run to end the first 10 minutes with a 16-14 lead over Richmond.
Fordham posted two free throws to open the second frame to build an 18-14 lead, before Ullstrom posted a three pointer to bring UR within one, 18-17. After another trey from Fordham, Doogan sparked a 10-0 run for the Spiders with efforts courtesy of Sam Dewey and Ullstrom to hand Richmond a 27-21 lead at the 5:22 mark. Each team managed to get off a free throw before a trey from the Rams cut the Spider lead to three, 28-25. Dewey started the scoring again for the Spiders with a layup, sparking an 8-0 run as Doogan posted six points while the Rams added a layup to send UR into halftime with a 36-27 lead.
Tierra Simon pushed the Richmond lead to 12, 39-27 off a triple to open the third quarter, sparking a 10-0 run for the Spiders. Fordham managed to get off a layup, to cut the lead to 46-29, but Ullstrom immediately responded on the other end with a layup. After another two points from Fordham, Alicia Newell completed an and-one play to build a 20-point lead, 51-31. After exchanging a pair of free throws, the Rams whittled the lead down to 15, 53-38, but Ullstrom got the Spiders back on track with another and-one play. After exchanging a few points, Richmond ended the quarter on a 6-0 run, 66-44.
Simon went 2-of-2 at the charity stripe, while Ullstrom followed suit with a triple for a 25-point lead, 71-46, to open the fourth quarter. Fordham ended the scoring drought with a layup, before Shaneka Campbell responded for the Spiders with a bucket of her own. A 6-0 run from the Rams then cut the Spider lead to 19, 73-54, before Aneisha Scott posted her first collegiate points at the 4:37 mark to hand the Spiders a 21-point lead, 75-54. Another 5-0 spurt from Fordham cut the Richmond lead to 14, 75-61, but a trey from Ullstrom preserved the lead at 17. After exchanging a few points, the Spiders ended the game on a 4-0 run with made free throws from Ava Persichetti, Scott and Dewey to hand Richmond the 84-65 win. Skylah Travis denied the Rams a final three pointer as the clock expired.

Notes on the Game
- Rachel Ullstrom paced the team with a season-high 27 points on 9-of-18 shooting. She added six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block to her stat line. Ullstrom also posted her 16th career game with 20 or more points, fourth of the season.
- Maggie Doogan also finished the game in double figures, posting her 17th career double-double with 18 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and six assists. The senior also added two blocks in the game.
- Sam Dewey was the third Spider to finish the game in double figures, posting 12 points in the contest for her fourth double-digit game of the season. She capped the night with three boards and a steal.
- As a team, the Spiders shot 28-of-55 (50.9%) from the field, 10-of-27 (37%) from deep and 18-of-22 (81.8%) from the charity stripe. In addition, the Spiders posted 36 rebounds, 20 assists, five blocks and six steals. All 14 Spiders saw action on the court, as Dewey led the bench with 12 points. UR saw 36 points in the paint and recorded 25 points off 16 Ram turnovers.
- Aneisha Scott recorded her first collegiate points (3).
- The game marked Richmond's first home game inside the Robins Center since an 81-45 win over Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 16, 2025, and its second A-10 home game of the season following a 69-46 win over Loyola Chicago on Dec. 3, 2025.
