FAIRFAX, Va. — Richmond suffered its first loss in 352 days Saturday as George Mason defeated the Spiders 1-0 at George Mason Stadium, ending UR's program-record 14-game unbeaten streak.
The loss was Richmond's first since a 2-1 setback at VCU on Oct. 16, 2025. The Spiders went 7-0-7 between losses, including an 11-game unbeaten streak, the longest in a single season in program history, to open the 2026 season. Richmond moved to 6-1-5 overall and 1-1-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
George Mason controlled the chances throughout the opening half, outshooting Richmond 9-1 and holding 68% of the possession. Veronica Rrapi kept the Patriots off the scoreboard, stopping Kylie Beauregard in the seventh minute and Keira Jeffries two minutes later. George Mason generated seven more shots before halftime, while Richmond's lone attempt came when Andee Costabile had a shot blocked in the 43rd minute.
Isabel Seifert replaced Rrapi in goal to begin the second half, and the match remained scoreless until the 62nd minute. Beauregard broke the tie at the 61:31 mark with a left-footed shot from the top of the boxl, her fourth goal of the season, to put George Mason ahead 1-0.
Richmond searched for the equalizer over the final 28 minutes, generating both of its corner kicks after falling behind, but couldn't break through.
George Mason finished with a 13-2 advantage in shots, including a 3-1 edge in shots on goal, and held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Patriots outshot Richmond 9-1 before halftime and 4-1 in the second half while finishing with 60% of the possession.
Rrapi finished with two saves in a scoreless opening half. Seifert played the final 45 minutes and was charged with her first loss of the season, moving to 3-1-3.
