St. Bonaventure, N.Y. — The No. 4 University of Richmond men's lacrosse team extended its Atlantic 10 conference winning streak to 10 games Saturday, defeating St. Bonaventure 23–7 in a decisive victory.
The Spiders' 23 goals marked the third-highest single-game output in program history, as Richmond saw output across the roster with 15 different players recording points. Aidan O'Neil led the way with six (3g, 3a), while Joe Sheridan added a career-high five goals. With his second goal of the game, Sheridan became the 11th player in program history to reach 100 career points.
Gavin Creo (1g, 3a) and Lucas Littlejohn (4g) each totaled four points, while Tanner Huber added three (2g, 1a). Leo Caine (2a) and Jack Dougherty (2g) each finished with two points. Additional point contributors included Evan Leonardo, Cole Hayden, Jack Ricciardi, Vincent Gaylord, and Jack Pilling (1g each), along with George Insley, Jackson Carawan, and Evan O'Neil (1a each). The Spiders' 34 points from the game are the ninth-most ever in a game for Richmond.
Richmond controlled the game with multiple scoring surges, including a five-goal run to open the contest and a 10-goal run spanning the second and third quarters. The Spiders added two more three-goal runs to put the game out of reach.
Defensively, Richmond continued its strong season trend, holding an opponent to seven or fewer goals for the seventh time this year. The Spiders also set a new program record with 20 caused turnovers, forcing 20 of St. Bonaventure's 24 miscues. Michael Farrell led with three caused turnovers, while Sheridan, Pilling, Connor Kelly, Nate Murphy, and Brayden Penafeather-Stevenson each recorded two.
At the faceoff X and on the ground, Richmond controlled possession throughout, winning 19-of-33 faceoffs and collecting 44 ground balls, tied for the 10th-most in a single game in program history. Vincent Gaylord went 13-of-20 on faceoffs with seven ground balls, while Penafeather-Stevenson added five and Pilling chipped in four.
The Spiders turned that possession advantage into offense, firing 62 shots, the second-most in a single game in program history, to the Bonnies' 19.
Richmond returns home to Robins Stadium for Senior Day on Saturday, April 11, hosting Saint Joseph's at noon.
