Spiders Dominate Hampton in Home Victory

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team delivered a commanding 6-1 victory over Hampton Saturday afternoon at the Westhampton Tennis Complex. With the win, the Spiders improve to 11-8 on the spring season, while the Pirates fall to 4-10.
How It Happened
Richmond secured the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. Charlie Burdell and Grant Cohen set the tone with a swift 6-0 victory on court three, before Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley followed with a 6-1 decision on court one to clinch the point. The court two pairing of Paxton Pritchard and Sam Rathmanner led 3-2 when play was halted.
The Spiders carried that momentum into singles, claiming five of six matches in straight sets or extended formats. Sam Rathmanner was first off the court with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory on court five, pushing Richmond ahead 2-0. Charlie Burdell followed on court two with a 6-2, 6-2 win to extend the lead.
Otto Sewell added another point on court four with a 6-1, 6-3 decision, before Dylan Atkinson added to Richmond's point total on court three with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Grant Cohen then capped the singles wins with a 6-0, 6-0 performance on court six.
Hampton earned its lone point at the top spot, where Rafael Padilha outlasted Davis Wiley in a three-set match, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.
