Spiders Split Final Weekend, Close Regular Season at 10-10

NORFOLK, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team split its final weekend of the regular season, earning a 4-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory at George Mason on Friday before falling 4-3 at No. 59 Old Dominion on Saturday. The Spiders close the regular season at 10-10 overall and 3-1 in A-10 play.

How It Happened
Richmond opened the weekend in dominant fashion at George Mason, sweeping the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Lara Bakhaya and Sofia Barbulescu set the tone with a 6-1 win over Maya Bayat and Brooklyn Siegel on court one, followed by Elizabeth Novak and Lucy Webber defeating Rava Ramanantoanina and Noelle Talarek 6-3 on court two. Beatriz Guerra and Abby Lee completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory over Lakshya Motam and Mary Young on court three to secure the early advantage.

In singles play, the Spiders clinched the match with three straight-set victories. Bakhaya delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over Maitree Rout on court one, while Lainey O'Neil added a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Mary Young on court three. Guerra sealed the match on court four with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Noelle Talarek to complete the 4-0 sweep.

On Saturday at Old Dominion, Richmond dropped the doubles point as the Monarchs secured wins on courts one and two behind Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova and the duo of Uladzislava Manzhos and Marina Markina.

The Spiders responded in singles, picking up three victories to push the match to the brink. Sofia Barbulescu earned a straight-set win on court one, defeating Victoria Matasova 6-3, 6-4, while Abby Lee followed with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Uladzislava Manzhos on court four. Lainey O'Neil kept Richmond within striking distance with a 7-5, 7-5 win against Mya Byrd on court six.

Old Dominion secured the deciding point on court five, as Marina Markina outlasted Lucy Webber in three sets, 6-7, 7-5, 6-1, to edge the Spiders 4-3 in the regular-season finale.
