Four Spiders Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team placed four student-athletes on the 2026 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, CSC announced Tuesday. Cole Brashear, Charlie Burdell, Sam Rathmanner and Otto Sewell earned the recognition for their combined accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
The CSC Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their performances athletically and academically. Nominees must hold at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and meet competition requirements to be eligible for selection. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with Academic All-America teams scheduled to be announced June 3.
Brashear played a pivotal role in Richmond's Atlantic 10 Championship run, posting a 12-4 singles record while competing primarily at the No. 6 position. He clinched matches against Fordham, George Mason and Dayton during the postseason, including the decisive point in Richmond's semifinal upset over top-seeded VCU. Brashear also paired with Davis Wiley for a 17-5 doubles record at the No. 1 spot.
Burdell compiled a 13-8 singles record during the dual season, competing primarily at No. 2 singles for the Spiders. He added a 7-2 doubles mark alongside Grant Cohen and helped Richmond capture its first Atlantic 10 title and first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006.
Rathmanner recorded six singles victories and teamed with Paxton Pritchard for nine doubles wins during the spring campaign. He earned key singles victories against William & Mary, Hampton and Coppin State during Richmond's seven-match winning streak late in the season.
Sewell finished the year with an 11-10 singles record while playing primarily at the No. 5 position. He won six of his final nine completed singles matches, including victories during the Atlantic 10 Championship over George Mason and Dayton to help secure Richmond's conference crown.
Richmond finished the 2026 season with a 17-9 overall record and captured the Atlantic 10 Championship as the No. 5 seed, defeating George Mason, VCU and Dayton on the way to the title.
