RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team opened the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule with a 5-2 victory over the Davidson College Wildcats Friday night at Crenshaw Field. With the five goals scored by five different Spiders, UR has tallied 30 goals in just seven games this season.

With the win, Richmond moves to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play. The Spiders return to action Sunday, Sept. 20 against William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Game time is set for noon on FloSports.com.

Maura Seeger put the Spiders on the board in the fourth minute of action, when she batted in a rebound off Clara Larripa's shot for her first collegiate goal.

Three minutes later, Abril Peroni picked up her sixth goal of the season on a penalty corner play, getting passes from Lillian Buckwalter and Larripa to set up her shot that found a way through the Wildcats keeper.

Richmond took a 2-0 lead into halftime, out-shooting Davidson 14-3 and 5-0 on frame. UR also held the upper hand with an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners in the first 30 minutes of action.

Maia Dechiario executed the Spiders first penalty corner play of the second half at the 30:29 mark for her second goal of the season off an insert from Luna Paratore and stick stop from Buckwalter.

Davidson got in on the scoring action in the fourth quarter to break up the shutout, 3-1.

Larripa tallied her ninth goal of the season on a direct insert from Luna Paratore in the 53^rd minute of action to make it 4-2.

Davidson was awarded a penalty stroke in the 57^th minute of action which was successful.

In the final two minutes, Davidson pulled their goalkeeper. Luna Paratore collected a pass from Larripa on a defensive stop, drove the ball up the field, and drew multiple defenders to earn a penalty stroke at 57:31. Luna Paratore was successful in her stroke attempt to give Richmond a 5-2 lead.

Amanda Cimillo, now 5-2 between the pipes for Richmond, finished the game with five saves, all coming in the second half and four in the fourth quarter. UR finished with 24 shots, while holding Davidson to 12, as well as 12 Spider corners to the Wildcats eight.
