Larripa, Nicholls Collect Weekly Atlantic 10 Honors

WASHINGTON, DC – Richmond field hockey's Clara Larripa and Elen Nicholls have earned Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors, the league office announced Monday.
Larripa, collecting her third offensive league honor of the season, tallied four goals and two assists in wins over Davidson and William and Mary. In the conference win Sept. 18, after assisting on the Spiders first goal of the game by Maura Seeger and second goal by Abril Peroni, Larripa tallied the Spiders fourth goal on a direct penalty corner insert from Valen Luna Paratore.
Against William & Mary Sept. 20, Larripa tallied her third hat trick of the season. She scored her first goal in the 13th minute, spinning past a first set of Tribe defenders to get into the circle then shot through two more to score. Just over two minutes into the third quarter, Larripa scored again. Off a restart at the 25-meter line, Valen Luna Paratore found Larripa in the circle, who then pushed the ball low past the Tribe goalkeeper as she faded away from the goal. Larripa finished her hat trick in the 43rd minute, again driving through multiple William & Mary defenders to score on a diving shot.
Larripa now leads the country with 12 goals in eight games. She also ranks second nationally in goals per game (1.50) and third in points per game (3.38).
Elen Nicholls, a native of Cardiff, Wales, also came up big for the Spider defense this weekend, collecting two defensive saves against William and Mary. She is now tied for the nation's top spot with four defensive saves on the season. Nicholls has also helped the Spider defense to a top-five ranking nationally in defensive saves and 13th in save percentage (.781).
Larripa, Nicholls and the Spiders, now 6-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, return to Atlantic 10 action Friday, Sept. 25 when the squad takes on reigning A10 Champion Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia. Game time is set for 3 pm on ESPN+.
