Wesley Satterfield is in his third season as an assistant coach at the University of Richmond for head coach Russ Huesman in 2021. Satterfield works with the Spiders' wide receivers. Satterfield brings 14 years of experience to the Spiders at both the FCS and FBS levels.
In 2019, he coached the Spider wide receivers that included both graduate transfers Keyston Fuller and Charlie Fessler. Fuller was named Third Team All-Colonial Athletic Association after posting 962 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. Fessler ranked fifth in the CAA with 68 receptions on the year, totaling 869 yards receiving.Â

He most recently spent three years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Austin Peay (2016-18) under former Spider Will Healy. In 2017, Austin Peay led the Ohio Valley Conference in total offensive and rushing yards, while ranking sixth in the nation on the ground. The offense set school records for total offense, points, yards per game, yards per play, touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, rushing yards and yards per rush.

Satterfield oversaw the play of FCS First Team All-America quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall, who also won the OVC Freshman of the Year. He helped Austin Peay to the biggest turnaround in history, winning eight games in 2017. In 2016, he led Austin Peay to the biggest offensive turnaround in the country going from just 12.3 points per game in the year prior to 24.4 points per game in his first year as offensive coordinator

Satterfield spent two seasons as the quarterbacks coach and run game coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana from 2014-15. He guided senior quarterback Bryan Bennett to Southland Conference Offensive Player of the year honors and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award. Southeastern led the Southland Conference in eight statistical categories, including points per game (47.3), touchdowns (50), average yards per play (7.1), pass efficiency (163.6), yards per pass (9.7), yards per completion (17.4), rushing touchdowns (32) and fewest sacks allowed (4).

Satterfield will be making his second stint on Huesman’s staff as he spent two seasons at Chattanooga from 2012-13 as the tight ends and running backs coach. He led tight end Faysal Shafaat to Third Team All-America honors during his time with the Mocs.

Satterfield spent three seasons at and offensive/special teams graduate assistant at Ohio State for head coaches Jim Tressel and Luke Fickell. He began his coaching career at North Carolina as an offensive graduate assistant under Butch Davis (2007-10). Satterfield played four years at the University of the South from 2003-06.

Satterfield earned his degree in history from the University of the South in 2007.
