Will Ahrens served as the defensive graduate assistant coach on Russ Huesman's staff during the 2022 season. There, he helped guide his old position group and saw three All-CAA selections in Marlem Louis (First Team), Jeremiah Grant (Third Team) and Ray Eldridge (Third Team). Richmond had the second-best scoring defense in the Colonial Athletic Association, holding opponents to just 20.1 points per game and held opponents to 333.4 yards per game, the second-fewest allowed in the conference. The Spiders also led the CAA against the rush, allowing opponents to pick up just 1,517 yards on the ground all season.

Ahrens joins the staff after being a three-year letterwinner for the Spiders in his career. Prior to Richmond, he was a four-year standout at New Canaan High School in Connecticut, earning All-FCIAC East honors as a senior. He helped New Canaan to four-straight Connecticut State Championship in Class L from 2013-16.
